Boss Babes in March

March came and went in a blink of an eye. I celebrated International Women’s Month throughout all of March. Women have come a very long way and still have a very long way to go but we are getting there day by day. I wanted to do something special to celebrate women. Being connected to so many amazing women you never know what one person can do for another. To show my appreciation for these women, I put together an intimate event hosted by The Rustic Brush in Sugarland.

The Rustic Brush is located all around Houston and it is an amazing crafting experience. How it works is you pick a design and you create your project from start to finish. First you sand your wood, stain it, and use your handy WOman skills to put the wood pieces together. You get to pick your colors for your design and create your own master piece in your own unique way.

Brand new business in Katy!! The cheese bar put together the most beautiful charcuterie board for my event. This is a hispanic woman owned business! She puts so much detail and thought into her boards and everything was fresh and tasty! Gracias!!

Pattytellsall Blogiversary Mixer

What a time to be alive! I hosted my very first mixer a little over a week ago (1/18/2019) in honor of my blog turning one. (My blog actually turned one on 1/26/2019). I was nervous and excited for the event. I worked with SO many great sponsors and my event wouldn’t have been successful without them.

The event took place at The Union Houston - an art gallery that is also a venue for events. Union was the best place I could have had to host the event. The space was perfect! At the event there was a preview of Union’s newest art exhibition, Prima Materia which is by two local hispanic artist, Darwin Arevalo & Grace Zuñiga. Roxor gin provided their artisan gin and LaShanna with Three Lumps of Sugar whipped up a specialty drink for the event. Austin East Ciders provided their top seller cider - Brut and it’s on my top favorites now.

Every get together needs some good music and that is exactly what DJ RJ delivered! He had the crowd dancing and he made sure to get a feel of the atmosphere to ensure everyone enjoyed the mixer. If you’re looking for a Dj, RJ is your guy!!

Who doesn’t love a photo booth?! Selfies-R-Us brought the fun with the photo booth. You were able to take a photo home AND send a digital copy to your phone. They also designed the background of the prints and I must say, it went perfect with my popcorn theme.

"St.Patty" giving you the hot spots for St.Paddy's Day!

I know what you're probably thinking, did this girl really call herself St.Patty?! And yes, yes I did! I really thought the headline to this blog post was beyond clever later to realize how cheesy it was! But hey, you're here and I am about to make your St.Patrick's Day planning a whole lot easier! 

But first, let's talk about what this day is really for. St.Patrick's Day is a day to commemorate Saint Patrick, who was the patron saint of Ireland. With time we have made March 17th a day of festivals, celebrating the Irish culture, and LOTS OF GREEN BEER!

SHOW ME THE GREEN BEER

No worries guys, there will be green beer in just about every bar in Houston on March 17th! The question is, where do you want to get yours at?!? There are a lot of festivals and parking lot parties that will be happening all around Houston and I am going to give you the top 5 spots that I think are worth checking out!

Mo's Irish Pub

Mo's Irish Pub has two locations, one in Katy and one in Cypress. Both locations are having a huge St.Patrick's day party. Both locations will have their parking lots blocked off with fences and the party will be in and outdoors. There will be live music, green beer, and bag pipers. I personally have not been to Mo's Irish Pub but I know a couple of people that work at the Katy location and they say they have been planning this for months! ALSO - as of now, there will not be a cover charge at the Katy location!

Mo's is having a breakfast event that is kid friendly. Traditional Irish breakfast will be served. You can reserve / buy your tickets with the link below. 

Griff's Irish Pub

Griff's is located in Montrose! With it being one of the older Irish pub's in Houston, you may run into an "older" crowd, but don't let that keep you away. Griff's will have live music and a dj. They have an entire lineup for the day. Bagpipers, irish dancers, face painters and again GREEN BEER! Presale tickets are $5 and can be purchase below.

Sherlocks Pub

Sherlocks Pub off Westheimer is where I have spent the last couple of St. Patrick's Days at! It is always a great time but take note that it gets pretty PACKED! Sherlocks will have a a huge parking lot party and the cover is $10. They will have live music, a dj, food trucks, and more green beer than you can drink! Doors open at 5 p.m. and close at 2 a.m.

Irish Cowboy

Irish Cowboy is known to throw the hottest and biggest St.Patrick's Day party. They will have food, live music / dj, and green beer. The cover for Irish Cowboy is $25. That is the price for general admission and access to all the bars. Irish cowboy is located in midtown. Although the cover is a little higher than the other places, Irish Cowboy is one of the largest locations with more bar access.  You can purchase your general admission ticket with the link below.

Lucky's Pub Downtown

Oh my, Lucky's Pub might take the winner on their party event for March 17th. They will have  live music all day, they have a line up that can be found on the link below . Parking downtown is never free but you can purchase a parking pass for that day. There is no cover before noon. After noon you can purchase a $12 (includes fee) general admission ticket. The day of general admission will be at least $15. They also have a VIP ticket that can be purchased that includes a private area with private bars, complimentary drinks, food provided by chuy's, commemorative Makers Mark dipped items, commemorative glass, shirt, cigar, & a swag bag. Lucky's Pub will have the hottest and best known food trucks as well. Besides music, green beer, and lots of food options, 94.5 the buzz radio station will be broadcasting there all day! I don't know about you, but I think I found my party spot at!

RODEO READY

This is seriously, my favorite time of year. I look forward to Rodeo season more than Christmas. THIS IS A TRUE STATEMENT. Everything about the Rodeo excites me! I love the Rodeo so much that I joined a Rodeo committee to be more involved (and for my gold badge of course)! I am on the Go Tejano Committee. I have been attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years and I have learned a lot throughout the years. There is so much to learn and do, so if you haven't been, make it a priority to go this season, if you have already, you know how much fun the experience is!

ABOUT THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO

A little back history on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; The Houston Rodeo has been around since 1932. It attracts millions of people a year and is the LARGEST Rodeo in the nation. Just last year there was a total of 2,611,176 attendees during the Rodeo season. HLSR (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) takes place at NRG Stadium and Center. HLSR promote the breeding, raising and marketing of better livestock and farm products at public fairs and to promote and maintain research and educational functions within the livestock industry. They raise millions of dollars in scholarships. Alone the Go Tejano committee raised enough funds to provide 20, $20,000 scholarships last year.

HLSR DETAILS

The actual Rodeo starts February 27th and runs all the way until March, 18th. The Houston Rodeo takes place at NRG Stadium and center. Parking is a big deal so make sure to check all possible alternatives like the Metrorail or Park and rides. You can pay for parking at the Rodeo in the Yellow lot. Parking last year was $20. Anything and everything you need to know can be located on the HLSR website. I provided the link to the transportation page and a link for the Rodeo website for additional information.

Before moving on to the attractions, here are some important dates to keep in mind for the Rodeo

  • Thursday, Saturday, February 22-24 // BBQ Cook-Off

  • Tuesday, February 27 // Rodeo Opening Day

  • Friday, February 23 // Go Texan Day

  • Saturday, February24 // Rodeo Run 9:10am

  • Saturday, February 24 // Downtown Rodeo Parade 10:00am

  • Wednesday, February 28 - Armed Forces Appreciation Day

  • Friday, March 2 // Black Heritage Day

  • Sunday, March 11 // Go Tejano Day

  • Sunday, March 18 // Rodeo Closing Day

RODEO COOK-OFF

It's not what you know, it's WHO you know. The Rodeo cook-off kicks off Thursday, February 22nd and ends Saturday, February 24th. The cook-off is what starts the Season off! A  lot of people get confused about what the cook off is and how you can get in on all the fun. Here are some FAQ's to help you

  • General admission to the Fairgrounds DOES NOT include admission into a tent

  • Each tent has sponsors and in order to get in you WILL NEED a wristband from them

  • If you have a wrist band for a tent, you still need to purchase admission to get into the Fairgrounds

  • Purchasing wrist bands - The tents usually include food and alcoholic beverages, most tents are open bar. You can find people selling wristbands on Craigslist, or on Facebook forums. BE cautious of whom you are buying from. Wrist bands usually vary from $50-$75 and up, for one single wristband. (That's why I mentioned, it's not what you know, it's who you know)!

All in All, the cook-off is a great time, it's a huge drinking fest and I promise, you will have the best BBQ you have ever tasted!

RODEO SHOW

The Rodeo show is something you do not want to miss! From bull riding to barrel racing to the cutest junior cowboys and cowgirls holding on to a sheep for dear life. The rodeo has what is called a "Super Series" where the best of the best compete for $$ and are awarded the champion of their skill. The actual Rodeo / competition starts at 6:45 on the week days and 3:45 on the weekends.

One of my favorites besides the mutton bustin' is the calf scramble. The calf scramble is where students compete to win a $1,750 certificate to purchase a registered beef heifer or market steer to show at the 2019 Houston Livestock Show. They have to chase these calves around the stadium and once they get a hold of one, they have to get them into the designated area. It sounds A LOT easier than what it is!  It is exciting to watch, so make sure you arrive with enough time before the entertainer to enjoy the ENTIRE show!

CONCERTS

Now, the extra fun stuff, the concerts! The concerts are ALWAYS amazing, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. This is probably going to be the best concert series for the reason that they have built a bigger and better stage! Below you will find the 2018 Rodeo Houston star entertainment lineup. Incase you are wondering, I am most excited to see Chris Stapleton! The performers usually go on stage at 8:45pm on the weekdays and on the weekends they go on stage at 5:45pm.

CARNIVAL, FOOD, & AGVENTURE

The Rodeo has many attractions for all ages. A big part of the rodeo is to learn about agriculture. You can explore "Agventure" in NRG Center and find many kid activities and animals of every species. My favorite part of Agventure is getting to see all the pigs and their piglets. There is a lot of hands on areas so the kids will have a blast.

After exploring and taking 101 pictures of the animals, the biggest attraction at the rodeo is the carnival. We may say it's all for the kiddos but let's get real, we all  LOVE rides. The carnival has so many rides to entertain toddlers to adults. Not a huge ride fan, NO PROBLEM! There are games of all kinds, from ring toss to basketball. If you are taking a date to the rodeo, make sure to impress him or her with winning them a giant stuffed animal. Remember, everything is bigger in Texas!

If the rides, animals, and games haven't impressed you yet, no worries, THE FOOD WILL. It never fails for me to start my rodeo adventure with a turkey leg or sausage on a stick and end it with fried oreos. You can get everything from giant corn dogs, funnel cakes, and deep fried EVERYTHING. Make sure you wear your loose jeans because you will indulge in the best southern food of your life.

In case you are wondering about how the rides work, I will break it down quickly for you.

  • Every ride requires tickets

  • There is a height requirement on majority of the rides and for the kiddie rides adults typically can ride with their child

  • SOME games can be used with tickets

  • Tickets can be purchased on the fairgrounds

If you are trying to get more bang for your buck, I HIGHLY suggest purchasing a half price carnival pack. The carnival pack is $50 and includes 150 tickets for the rides and some games. It also has a lot of different coupons. (I mean, who doesn't love coupons) I provided a link below so you can purchase yours today! But don't wait too long, the deadline to purchase the carnival packs is Saturday, February 24th.
